With one daughter, 54 grandchildren and great grandchildren, Arkie Williams of Conway has had a life full of family, friends and memories. Williams celebrated her 103 birthday with some of them Wednesday at a party held in her honor at Heritage Living Center.
"It's wonderful," she said of the grandchildren as two of them, Judy Dalton of Conway and JoAnn Raper of Morrilton, visited with Williams as she was served chocolate cake and ice cream by the staff at Heritage Living Center who affectionately refer to her as "Mee-Maw."
"Mee-Maw" received an abundance of hugs, well wished and gifts at the party and shared a few tidbits of her life. She was born in Hattieville and then grew up in the Martinville area. She and her late husband Irye were married 74 years and raised one daughter. They spent much of their time operating a small grocerry store.
"Mee-Maw" now has eight grandchildren with all but one still living. She has 20 great-grandchildren with all but two living. She has 25 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. All the family lives in the Conway, Morrilton, Damascus, Center Ridges and Gravesville areas.
Besides watching her daughter grow up and then being blessed with so many grandchildren, Williams said one of her fondest memories is "going swimming in the creek."
