HOUGE, R. E. O. - Independence County, Arkansas | R. E. O. HOUGE - Arkansas Gravestone Photos

R. E. O. HOUGE

Oaklawn Cemetery
Independence County,
Arkansas

Daughter of Thomas and Omelia Hogue
Feb 25, 1848 - Sept 23, 1849

Her tombstone is made of white bronze or zinc and sometimes called a "zinker" and it is hollow and the nameplate is removable. Local legend has it that her father would remove the nameplate each morning and fill the inside with his moonshine. His customers would come during the evening, remove the moonshine and leave the monetary payment. The next morning the father removed the money, replaced the moonshine and the process was repeated over and over.
