SPRINGDALE — Marion E. Brown, 89, of Springdale passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his home. He was born May 6, 1924, in Nevada, Mo., to Leslie and Lena Street Browne.

As a child he lived in New Mexico and later his family moved to Springdale in 1930. He attended Springdale schools and graduated in 1942.

In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps and served in several flight squadrons until he was discharged April 1946. He then attended the University of Arkansas and went to work for Pillsbury Foods. In January of 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict from January 1951 until January 1952 and was discharged in April 1952.

Returning to Springdale, he went to work at the Famous Hardware Store on Emma Avenue from 1952 until 1957. In February 1957 he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He was appointed postmaster in Springdale in 1970 and held that position until he retired in May 1982.

He married his high school sweetheart, Millie Lou Riggs, on June 5, 1949. They were married for 63 years; she preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2013. He was member of the First United Methodist Church in Springdale and past member of the Rotary Club.

Marion is survived by two sons, Mike Brown and wife, Carla, of Owasso, Okla., and Glenn Brown and wife, Carol, of Springdale; one daughter, Lorna Weible and husband, Mike, of Magnolia, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, with the Rev. Judy Van Hoose officiating.

Visitation will be today, April 4, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, C.J. Brown, Jeff Brown, Matt Brown, Peter Brown, Seth Brown and Nathan Pendergraft.

Honorary pallbearers are Cletus Browne, Sanford Boone, Bob Chambers, Harold Dean Hewitt, Jay Penix, Riley Reed and Walter Turnbow.

SPRINGDALE — Millie Lou Brown, 86, of Springdale, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, peacefully and quietly at Springdale Health and Rehab with her family at her side.

She was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Glenn M. and Rachel Eicher Riggs.

She graduated from Springdale High School in 1945, where she was a cheerleader and class president. She was the 1944 Homecoming Queen. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1949 with a degree in journalism.

She had worked as a lab technician at the Welch Grape Company in Springdale prior to working in the Springdale School System, where she started as the school secretary at Washington Elementary. She later became a second-grade teacher at Jones Elementary in Springdale, retiring in 1987 after 22 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springdale, where she sang in the choir for many years and served in several area.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Marion E. Brown, whom she married June 5, 1949; two sons, Mike Brown and wife, Carla of Owasso, Okla., and Glenn Brown and wife, Carol of Springdale; one daughter, Lorna Weible and husband, Mike of Magnolia, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Springdale with the Rev. Judy Van Hoose officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, C.J. Brown, Jeff Brown, Matt Brown, Peter Brown, Seth Brown and Nathan Pendergraft. Honorary pallbearers will be Sanford Boone, Harold Dean Hewitt, Walter Turnbow, Jay Penix, Larry Douglas and Bob Chambers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Bread of Life, 208 W. Emma Ave., Springdale, AR 72764.
