Glavis B. Edwards, 88, of Conway, Arkansas, left this life May 9, 2010. He was born September 4, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, Arkansas, son of the late Bradford Edwin and Minnie Lou (Conyers) Edwards. Glavis was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Price Edwards, who died July 29, 2009.

Mr. Edwards was a graduate of Arkansas State University, where he received his Bachelors degree in Animal Husbandry. He also attended LSU, where he lettered in basketball. He began his career with the Soil Conservation Service in 1949 in Harrison, Arkansas. In 1976 he retired as Director of Personnel with the Agriculture Research Service of the USDA in Washington, DC and moved from Maryland back to Arkansas, where he acquired his wife’s grandfather, Albert Henderson’s farm. He loved being outdoors, working his farm, and tending his beloved azaleas.

Glavis was an Army veteran of World War II, and a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves. He was an active member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church for many years until his health prevented him from taking an active role in the church. He was also an ardent fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
He is survived by his son Glavis B. Edwards, Jr., and his wife Helen, and daughter Giselle of Gainesville, Florida and his daughter Amber Claire, of Melbourne, Florida. Son John Edwards of Conway, Arkansas and wife Betty Ann. Son Mike Edwards of Gainesville, Florida. Son Joe Edwards of Little Rock, Arkansas and wife Kathy and their sons Brett, and Matthew and his wife,Grace and their son Luke of Travis AFB. Daughter Claire Edwards of Bowie, MD and her children, Cameron Reynolds of Conway, and daughter Shawna Reynolds and fiancée Nathan Hunt. Glavis’ 98 year old brother, Rodger “Doc” Edwards of Batesville, Arkansas.
The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Funeral will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in the chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, with Gayle Bone officiating. Burial will follow in Copperas Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway. 501-327-7727.

Margaret Mae Price Edwards, 82 of Conway, left this life on July 29, 2009, after suffering complications from a stroke on July 7th.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband Glavis B. Edwards, Sr., son Glavis B. Edwards, Jr. and his wife Helen, and daughter Giselle of Gainesville, Florida and his daughter Amber Claire, also of Florida. Son John Edwards of Conway, Arkansas and wife Betty Ann. Son Mike Edwards of Gainesville, Florida. Son Joe Edwards of Little Rock, Arkansas and wife Kathy and their sons Brett and Matthew and wife Grace. Daughter Claire Edwards of Bowie, MD and her children, daughter Shawna Reynolds and her son Cameron Reynolds.

Margaret grew up in Guy, Arkansas and graduated from Guy High School in 1942, then attended Arkansas State Teachers College. Her first job was as a teacher in Heber Springs. After many years of working for Soil Conservation Service, she retired to Arkansas with her husband to be near her family and friends. She was much respected and loved by many. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Conway bowling Hall of Fame. An accomplished cook she loved to entertain her family and friends with her culinary skills and special recipes. She will be truly missed by family and friends. She was a gem with a zest for life and a competitive, generous and loving nature. She was the most wonderful, perfect Mom and her family will love and cherish her forever.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with interment to follow at Copperas Springs Cemetery in Guy. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
