Velda Mae Grills Rowden Blevins, daughter of the late Paul Grills and Audie Cooper Grills, was born October 14, 1927 in Larkin, Arkansas. She departed this life August 9, 2015 at her home in Oxford, Arkansas at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 26 days. She was united in marriage to Bill Rowden June 11, 1942 and to this union two daughters were born. On January 31, 1986 she wed Lloyd Blevins. She spent her life as a daughter, niece, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. At the time of her death she was the owner and operator of Clearview Fox Pen Fox Hunting Club. She was of the Baptist faith and a long time, active member of Oxford Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Sarah and Alan Sherrell of Oxford, four grandchildren: Robby Rogers and wife Jennifer of Hot Springs, Rusty Rogers of Hot Springs, Mandy Lawrence and husband Jason of Melbourne and Missy McBride and husband Billy of Oxford; 10 great grandchildren: Kassi Talbot and husband Jefferson, Case Rogers, Katy Rogers, Gage Rogers, Rhett Rogers, Maranda Rogers, Gabe Lawrence, Jenna Lawrence, Landon McBride and Megan McBride; 2 great great grandchildren: Eve and Liv Talbot and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: Bill Rowden and Lloyd Blevins; and one daughter: Jennifer Rogers.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Oxford Baptist Church with Mike Conyers officiating. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Monday, August 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Memorials may be made to: Oxford Baptist Church, Hwy 9 North, Oxford, Arkansas 72565.
Pallbearers: Rob Rogers, Rusty Rogers, Jason Lawrence, Billy McBride, Joe Dockins and James Wood.
