Death Calls Miss Alma Blumhorst
We expect the grim messenger with his cold scythe to strike ruthlessly at age. It is shocking indeed, when he strikes cruelly at the heart of youth, beauty and promise. Such He did when He struck Miss Alma Blumhorst.
Miss Alma was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Blumhorst of the Heinrich community, and the teacher of the school bearing the same name. Miss Alma was 22 years of age, born in that community, attended the school where she was teaching until she completed the common school course, then went to High School and to the State -------------------she completed her course. After completing her college course at Jonesboro, she accepted the position as teacher of her home school. She taught two terms of school there, and made an unusual success of her work. The children all loved her, and their parents shared with them that love. There was never registered a complaint against her. She was of German birth, and possessed that splendid quality of German thoroughness that always speaks for success.
She was an Unusually beautiful girl, and there was something in her personality that drew everyone to her. Her disposition was most pleasing. Her character was spotless. She was a most devout Christian, and a member of the Ulm Lutheran church. It is a pity but that every child could have an opportunity to go to a teacher like Alma Blumhorst was. She was the eldest daughter and the pride of the home.
We are puzzled to know why earth's fairest and most promising flowers should thus be taken before the real time for fruitage. The writer knew Miss Alma from childhood. He watched her progress through school and felt almost a parental pride in her success. Today he grieves with her parents, relatives and friends. His heart' is especially with that dear old mother and father, whose frief is almost unbearable. May God comfort them until time shall come for them to join their daughter in a better land.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bumhorst, and three sisters, Olga, Ann and Edna, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Stuttgart Lutheran church, the Rev. O. E. Remnitz of the Ulm Lutheran church, assisted by Rev. H. T. Bernthal, of Stuttgart, conducting same. The church was filled to its utmost and the front outside was filled with friends who gathered to pay their last respects to the honored dead. It is seldom that such a concourse of people follow anyone to their final resting place.
