Dr. Jacquelyn Edwards Driver of Crawford, Texas, formerly of Sherrill, Arkansas, passed peacefully on February 16, 2011. She was born April 28, 1958 to Jasper S. and Jimmie L. Edwards.
Jacquelyn “Jackie” confessed her life to Christ at an early age during weekly summer revival at New Hope AME Church. She remained faithful until sunset of her life on February 16, 2011 in Waco, Texas. She was very active in Sunday school and served as pianist of the choir.
She attended grade school at St. Peter Catholic and Junior High School in Fayetteville graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1976.
Post High school education was a B.S., UAPB Pine Bluff, Arkansas, M.S. University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and PH.D., Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
While pursuing her education she received many awards and recognitions.
During her undergraduate studies she worked as an intern for Dow Chemical, USA and Natural Resources conservation Service. She later became a Soil Conservationist with NRCS. She continued her studies at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and received her M.S. Degree with weed science emphasis in 1983. Following graduation she worked as an Extension Agricultural Agent and later taught soil and crops courses at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She accepted a position with Syngenta Crop Protection, LLC. after receiving her Ph.D., degree from Oklahoma State University in 1993. She worked for Syngenta Crop Protection, Inc for 18 years as a Biological Research and Development representative. Her responsibilities involved research activities in turf, ornamentals, and professional pest management.
Jackie was very active in many professional organizations.
The organization that she was most fond of was the Southern Weed Science Society. She was active in the Society on various committees. Jackie was elected to serve as Vice-President of the SWSS and later served in the role of President. Jackie was honored by the society in receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 2010. She has authored many journal articles and made many professional presentations.
Jackie had many friends and colleagues that she was quite fond of and cherished their friendship. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her faithful life and loving memories to her dedicated husband of 30 years, Tony Driver of Waco, Texas; Parents, Jasper S. and Jimmie L. Edwards of Sherrill, Ar; Three Brothers-Jeffrey L. Edwards(LaTundra) of Sherrill, AR, Jerial S. Edwards of Sherrill, AR and Jimmy M. Edwards(Patricia) Fayetteville, AR; A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
Services are Thursday, February 24, at 10:00a at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Sherrill, AR. Interment follows at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, AR. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 for family and friends.
