Florene "Pat" Cunningham Rollan, 82, of Independence, Missouri went to Heaven on July 28, 2015.
She was born August 11, 1932 along with a twin sister Corene to the late Walter and Odess Cunningham in Norfork, Arkansas. There was a total of nine children. Florene had two brothers and six sisters.
Florene received her schooling from Horace Mann School in Norfork, Arkansas. She lived in Norfork, Arkansas until 1951 then she moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma to live with her sister Fern Ragsdale. In Muskogee, Oklahoma she would meet and later marry William "Bill" Rollan and they were married for 47 years before his death in 1999. They had two children Michael and Sheri Rollan. William and Florene moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1958.
Florene worked for 20 + years as a mail package inspector and trainer for Sears Roebuck and Company Mail Order Plant on 15th & Cleveland in Kansas City until retiring in 1993. In her early years she worked for Sunshine Biscuit in Kansas City and The Barns Lobby Lunch Restaurant in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
While in Kansas City Florene took on the nickname Pat. It was a name she liked and it was easy for people to remember instead of Florene, which many mistook for Florence. Friends would just laugh when they found out her real name because they had always known her by the nickname.
Florene was one of the most selfless and self-sacrificing people. She was very nurturing and took in and cared for her younger brothers and sisters when her mother, Odess, passed away in 1952. Florene always put herself second to others' needs and was a very caring and giving woman.
Florene was an avid reader of romance and mystery. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-word puzzles, playing cards with family and friends and collecting dolls, jewelry and just about every trinket you could image. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a huge fan of classic country music and loved her two cats Smokey and Sammie.
Florene loved socializing with everyone and looked forward to returning back down home to Norfork, Arkansas every year for family reunions and Decoration Day at Galatia Cemetery.
Florene loved talking about her family heritage and enjoyed telling stories about life growing up in the 1930's and how different the times and experiences of people living were back then. She wishes that families continue passing on memories and traditions to younger generations.
She will be missed by her family and all that knew her.
Florene is preceded in death by her generous and loving children Michael Lee Rollan and Sheri Lynn Rollan Villines and Husband William "Bill" Rollan; Companion Wayne Goings; two brothers, Delbert and Jackie Cunningham and four sisters Laura Bell Morgan, Fern Ragsdale, Marydell Haney and Mettis Davis.
She is survived by one grandson; Stephen Villines of Independence, MO; two sisters; Mavis Hamilton of Independence, MO and a twin sister Corene Parnell of Valley Center, KS and very special nieces; Barbara Jeffery and Diana Hickman of Mountain Home, AR; Louise, Kay, Betty and Nora all of Valley Center, KS, Debbie Brew Cunningham of Independence, MO, Shayne Hamilton of Tulsa, OK and God-Children; Jenny Bryant and Bennie Turner of Independence, MO.
A visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 with funeral services following at 10 a.m. at Conner-Hankins Funeral Home & Cremation Center Chapel with Bro. Doug Huskey officiating. Burial will follow in Galatia Cemetery in Norfork, Arkansas.
