Thomas Jefferson Hartsfield Sr. was born born near Deann, Hempstead County, Arkansas. He was the son of Mathew and Mary Magdelene Holly Hartsfield. He married Celia Catherine Honeycutt in 1877. Celia was born near Downsville in Union Parish, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Jane Anderson Hartsfield. The Honeycutts moved to Deann, Hempstead County, Arkansas from Union Parish, Louisiana around 1870. Thomas Jefferson Hartsfield was a successful farmer in Hempstead County.
