James Edward Henry was the son of James Harvey and Mary Susan Garriss Henry. He was born in New Hanover County, North Carolina and moved to Arkansas with his parents in the early 1850s. They settled near Willisville. He married Sarah Virginia Farris and they lived most of their lives near Shover Springs, Hempstead County, Arkansas.
