Luther Ray Raney of Summerville, South Carolina
April 20, 1932 - March 10, 2023

Luther Ray Raney, son of the late William Jackson Raney and Amey Angeline Cole Raney, was born April 20, 1932, in Weston, Missouri. He departed this life March 10, 2023, in Walterboro, South Carolina at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 18 days. He was united in marriage to Letha Joann Garner June 17, 1955, in Courtside, Arizona and together they raised eight children. Luther spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather great grandfather provider and friend. Most of his life Luther worked in the sheet metal industry.

He is survived by six sons and five daughters-in-law: Gary Ray and Laura Raney of Melbourne, Marion Jackson and Dorothy Raney of Oxford, Patrick Neil Raney of Melbourne, Richard Alan and Sabine Raney of Arizona, Roland Scot and Clarissa Raney of Kentucky and Charles James and Brandy Raney of South Carolina; one daughter: Barbara Gail Raney of South Carolina; 17 grandchildren: Christopher Raney, Darla Raney, Jessica Crawford, Brandi Marberry, Christie Proffitt, Anthony Proffitt, Jason Proffitt, Tammy Ricci, Alan Raney, Samantha Raney, Trystin Raney, Ciara Tennill, Taylor Shaw, Savannah Raney-Amerman, Nicholas Raney and Jon Layfield; 25 great grandchildren and a host of other relative and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Letha Joann Raney, Parents, eight brothers and sisters, one son: Ricky Raney, one granddaughter Tina Ricci and one grandson: Justin Eric Raney.

Visitation and funeral service will be Tuesday, March 21 at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lone Star Cemetery in Melbourne.

Pallbearers: Charles Raney, Scot Raney, Jack Raney, Richard Raney, Nicholas Raney and Trystin Raney.

Letha Joann Garner Raney, daughter of the late Marion Elwood Garner and Mabel Pearl Poindexter Garner, was born July 29, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She departed this life December 20, 2 013 at her home in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to Luther Ray Raney on June 17, 1955 in Courtside, Arizona and to this union eight children were born. She spent her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Luther Raney of the home; six sons and five daughters-in-law: Gary Ray and Laura Raney of Melbourne, Marion Jackson and Dorothy Raney of Melbourne, Patrick Neil Raney of Melbourne, Richard Alan and Sabine Raney of Arizona, Roland Scot and Clarissa Raney of Arizona and Charles James and Brandy Raney of South Carolina; one daughter: Barbara Gail Raney of Melbourne; one brother: Charles Garner of California; one sister: Glenda Franklin of Melbourne; 22 grandchildren: Christopher Raney, Darla Raney, Jessica Crawford, Brandi Marberry, Christie Proffitt, Anthony Proffitt, Jason Proffitt, Tina Ricci, Tammy Ricci, Alan Raney, Samantha Raney, Trystin Raney, Ciara Shaw, Taylor Shaw, Michael Helton, Christopher Helton, Jessica Howard, Savannah Fulton-Raney, Nicholas Raney, Darryl Howe, Darrin Howe and Devin Howe; 25 great grandchildren and a host of other relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Ricky Glen Raney; one grandson: Justin Eric Raney; one brother James Garner; one sister: Patricia White.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Dennis Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation: Friday, December 27 from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 901 North University, Little Rock, AR 72207.

Pallbearers: Gary Ray Raney, Marion Jackson Raney, Patrick Neil Raney, Richard Alan Raney, Roland Scot Raney and Charles James Raney.
