Darrell Lee Whitesell, of Mountain Home, Arkansas (formerly of Waterloo, Iowa) passed away from complications of rheumatoid arthritis at home on Monday, April 27.
Darrell was born in Waterloo, Iowa on September 13, 1936 to Delbert and Marjorie Shepard Whitesell.
Darrell graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954 and joined the military. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Hopewell, Pacific Fleet from 1954 to 1957. Upon discharge, he became a Waterloo firefighter, retiring in 1987.
He married Joan (Jody) Jones on December 19, 1956 in San Diego, California.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Vicki (Ron) Collum; son Steven; two grandsons and five great grandchildren as well as two sisters, Jeneane (Clark) Winter and Jenelle (Fred) Vollmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Mountain Home Cemetery with Reverend Rodney Steele officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion Alley-White Post #52.
Arrangements are under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

In lieu of flowers memorials are encouraged to the Hospice of the Ozarks or the Baxter County Humane Society.
