Clarence Kersten, 79, of Atkins, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at Atkins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born October 20, 1928 on a farm east of Atkins, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Gunderman Kersten. He married Flora June Quinn and had children. He worked for West Tree service for 20 years, then moved back to Atkins and farmed until 1989 raising soybeans and cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Fred , Raymond and Joe Kersten, 2 sisters, Catherine Charneck, Wilhelmine D'Angelo..
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Georgia Kersten of Atkins, 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and James Millikan of Atkins, Carolyn and Mark Christie of Elkins, AR, Janice and Bobby Austin of Bedford, TX, Jane and Robert Crabtree of Atkins, Sandy Kyle of Little Rock 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Chris Kersten of Atkins and George Kersten of Mt. Pleasant, TX, 3 sisters, Marie Sweeney of Memphis, Michigan, Rose Reeves of Longview, TX and Rita Montgomery of Fayetteville and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 22, 2008, at Atkins Catholic Church with The Rev. Father Ernie Hardesty officiating. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.
Rosary will be at 7 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Tyler Crabtree, Robert Crabtree, Martin Christie, Colin Duvall, Kody Kyle and Greg Hankins.
