Sugar Hill Cemetery was started as a family cemetery - that of the Funkhousers. Henry Funkhouser was one of the very earliest settlers, arriving here at an indeterminate time in the early 1800's, with his family and a number of slaves. There are several graves in the cemetery where these slaves are buried, all marked with uninscribed sandstones . . .
