Bio;
Nellie Rhea "Miss Rhea" Johnson Spears was the daughter of John Edgar Johnson and Ida Darr Johnson. Miss Rhea obtained her Teaching License by the time she was 18 years old. She taught school at Hobo and at Rock Creek. Miss Rhea married Archie Argintine Spears in 1919 in Conway Co., Arkansas. Miss Rhea and Archie were parents of Mary Elizabeth, b.2/4/1925 d.6/5/1927, Jeanne, b.1/30/1928 d.2/19/2008, she married Living Church. Living, b.1930, she married Living Norwood. Archie died during surgery at Fitzsimmon Army Hospital, Denver, Denver Co., Colorado. Miss Rhea returned to Jerusalem with her two little girls. This was during the Great Depression, in 1934 Canning Kitchens were opened in rural communities. Miss Rhea was the supervisor of the local Canning Kitchen. Miss Rhea attended State Teachers College(UCA). In 1938, she became Postmaster of the Jerusalem Post office, a job she held for 32 years, 8 months. She retired on November 30, 1970. Miss Rhea was a devout member of the Jerusalem Church of Christ. She also reported the Jerusalem News for the local newspaper. Miss Rhea never remarried, she raised her daughters alone and they both grew to become upstanding women in the Community.
