Alvis Earl Tackett, 84, of Atkins died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at his home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1927, the son of Thomas Lee and Walsie Tackett. He was a U.S. Army veteran, active in the Lion's Club and a member of Atkins First Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree mason. He was retired from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and was selected as the 1982 wildlife officer of the year.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nina Rackley Tackett; two sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Mark Thessing; a son, Tommy Tackett, all of Russellville; a grandson and wife, Steven and Catrina Thessing; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Hadley Thessing, all of Fort Smith; and a special friend, Ann Goodall of Atkins.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Atkins First Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Jackson and Rev. Jeff Cheatham officiating. Burial will be in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today. A full Honor Guard will be provided by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Tackett, Andy Tackett, Eddie Tackett, Ronald Pierce, Joe Pierce, Burl Hurley and Frank Southard. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Murdoch, Troy Burris, Larry Tackett and David Tackett.
