Memorial Services for Judge McCullum
Circuit Court adjourned for on hour at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and the Pope County Bar Association held memorial services for Judge A. J. McCullum of Atkins, former member of the bar, who died January 25.
Due to old age and other interests he had about retired from active practice, but maintained his membership in the Association. He came from Missouri to Arkansas in 1903 and organized the Van Buren County Bank at Clinton. He soon disposed of this bank and organized the Merchants and Farmers Bank, of which he was president until his death. He was author of McCollumn's Textbook on Civil and Criminal Forms and Pleadings, published in 1906 and found in most Arkansas law libraries. he was a Confederate Veteran, having served through the entire war of the sixties, and was 84 years old at the time of his death.
Hon. Robert Bailey, president of the bar association, was chairman at the memorial exercises. Other speakers were Hon. A. S. Hays, E. A. Williams of Morrilton and Circuit Judge J. T. Bullock.
