Carl Edward Embry, 83, of Atkins, died Monday, December 28, 2009. He was born to the late William and Audrey Arnold Embry on August 5, 1926, in Conway County. He was preceded in death by his son; Scott Edward Embry; brother, Billy Embry; and grandson, Blake Embry. Carl graduated from Atkins High School and served his country in World War II in the United States Navy. He married Alma Jean Embry in 1948, and they lived in Atkins throughout their years together.

Carl was a Farmer in Atkins until he retired in 1996. The Embrys were voted farm family of the year in 1967 and Carl passed along his love of the farming to both his sons. Carl was a member of First Baptist Church in Atkins. He loved his family and was a wonderful husband and father.

Carl was survived by his wife, Alma Jean Embry of Atkins; two children Lynn and wife, Rosanna Embry of Atkins and Julie Embry of Little Rock; three brothers Gay Embry of Blackwell, Dwayne and David Embry of Atkins; sister Debie Duvall of Atkins; one granddaughter, Hope Petty of Atkins and one great-granddaughter, Macie Petty of Atkins.
Visitation is from 6:30-8:00 pm Tuesday at Lemley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm, at Atkins First Baptist Church, the Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. Burial will be held at Atkins City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jeff Embry, Kyle Embry, Morris Embry, Jim Arrington, Andy Wiley and Doyle Foshee. Honorary pallbearers are Alvis Tackett, Maus Implement staff and all area farmers.
