Joe D (Close Up) THOMAS

Cedar Creek Jerusalem Cemetery
Conway County,
Arkansas

Oct 27, 1915 - Nov 25, 2002
Note;
Joe D. Thomas was the son of Ellett Marion and Leah Belle Reynolds Thomas.

He married Ilda Merle Huffman December 22, 1940 in Jerusalem, Conway Co., Arkansas.

Joe was an extraordinary carpenter contractor. He worked on many landmarks all across the the United States, including the Arkansas River Bridge in Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas. In the early years of their marriage, Joe and Ilda traveled across the country with Joe's contracting jobs. They lived in California, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico and of course Arkansas.

Joe and Ilda returned to Arkansas in the 1960s, where they bought a home in Rose City, a suburb of North Little Rock. They lived here until 1985 when Ilda retired from Arkansas Social Services and they returned back home to Jerusalem, Conway Co., Arkansas to be closer to family. It was here that Joe and Ilda spent their remaining years, Joe raising peanuts, vegetables and the best watermelons in Arkansas, Ilda lovingly performing her good works with the Church of Christ and doteing on her great nieces and nephews, and neighborhood children.

Ilda passed away on May 12th 2000.

Joe filled his time repairing small engines in his little shop and visiting his brother, Orville, in Appleton.

Orville Thomas passed away in June of 2000. Suffering these two deaths so close together was a huge blow to Joe.

Joe's health then began deteriorating in early 2002 and the Stomach Cancer that had been in remission since the 1980s returned, that combined with COPD were more than Joe could handle. He told me "Little Girl, I'm ready to go, it's my time." He passed away at St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas on November 25, 2002.

Joe Thomas was also the very Best Uncle a girl could have had.
