Charles Raymond Hillis, 97, of Dardanelle died Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born October 22, 1911, in Appleton and was the son of Thomas Allen and Nora Lee Duvall Hillis. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Carra Daniel and Polly Emmert, two brothers, Dr. J. Ralph Hillis and Thomas Woodrow Hillis. He retired after 30 years as manager of Modern Furniture and Appliances and was a beloved United Methodist lay minister who continued to make pastoral calls during his stay at the Dardanelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a Mason, WWII Army Air Corps veteran (Pacific) as a Radar Navigator. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals, several Air Stars, Good Conduct Medal For 53 years Raymond served as a lay speaker of the United Methodist Church. He had been a Boy Scouts assistant, a Boys & Girls Club and Little League Commissioner. Raymond loved everyone he met and truly made a joyful noise to The Lord.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William D. Hillis and his wife Dr. Argye Hillis of Waco, Texas and daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. Pamela Hillis and husband Doug Theodore of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren, Dr. Danny Hillis and his wife, Pati of Encino, CA., Dr. David Hillis and his wife Ann of Austin, Texas, Dr. Elizabeth Hillis Trupe and husband, Jimmy of Maryland Josh Theodore and wife, Christina of Dallas, Miles Theodore and wife, Jordan of Atlanta, Parrish Theodore of Boulder, Colorado.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, January, 2009, at Atkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Woody and the Rev. Wiley Jones officiating. Burial will be in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. Visitation will be 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Taylor, John Estep, Mitchell Minor, Bobby Cowen, Richard Buchy, Bennie Dosecal, Jerry Markham, Michael Blanchard, David Austin, Keith Finkenbinder. Honorary Pallbearers will be all ministers, pastors and priests.
