Lewis Ransom Bell was born August 12, 1925 in Dolph, Arkansas to Marvin Bell and Laura McGee Bell. He departed this life April 30, 2015 at his home in Calico Rock, Arkansas at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 18 days. He was united in marriage to Lorene Russell July 28, 1945 and to this union one daughter was born. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, where he received a Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Stars and a Bronze Star Medal.
Lewis spent his early working years as a builder and his last 20 years as a maintenance supervisor at Community Medical Center of Izard County in Calico Rock. He loved working in his shop, fishing, playing his guitar with his music group and enjoying his family and friends who knew him best as “Uncle Lewis”. He was of the Methodist faith and attended Wild Cherry Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Thera and Shawn Tompkins of Calico Rock, Arkansas; one brother and sister-in-law, Ermal and Billie Bell of Calico Rock, Arkansas and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorene, his parents and his infant sister.
Funeral service will be Sunday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calico Rock Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, Arkansas. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 2 from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Pineville Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Bobby Lindsey, Jaden Whitfield, Jacob Whitfield, Eric Wildhagen, Stephen Hicks and Denny Copeland
Honorary Pallbearers: Glen Jackson, Dwight Wayland, Jack Carmon, Jim Lindsey and Howard Jeffery.
