Connie Griffin, age 58, died at home on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010. He was born on Dec. 23, 1952, and lived his life in the place he loved most, De Valls Bluff. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and rose to a supervisory position through dedication and hard work. While he enjoyed his work he was most at home while in the outdoors. He was well known as an extraordinary hunter and fisherman who loved being in the woods or on the river and was routinely accompanied by his special hunting and fishing buddy, his dog "Coon Dog." His love of the outdoors extended to his family and friends that surrounded him. He always had a smile and a willingness to help anyone who needed a little assistance. His life could be summed up as a dedicated family man, loving husband, and avid sportsman. Connie will be missed by family and friends alike. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Marion Griffin, a daughter, Amber Lynn, and a grandson, Zachary Dalton Anderson. Surviving family members include his wife of 32 years, Carol; his daughter, Crystal Anderson (Jason) and his son, Donnie Griffin (Leslie) and three grandchildren. He also leaves four sisters, Micki Elder of Carlisle, Dora Redmon of Tucson, Ariz., Marilyn George and Vonda Griffin of De Valls Bluff and three brothers, Joe, Kenneth and Rickey Griffin, all of De Valls Bluff. Connie's family wishes to thank all those who provided help and prayers during his extended battle with cancer. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in De Valls Bluff. Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen is in charge of arrangements.
