Hugh J. CANNADAY

Cannaday Family (Peace Valley) Cemetery
Madison County,
Arkansas

Born January 13, 1847 died February 28, 1864; son of James W. & Minerva A. Cannady/Cannaday.

Taken from The Madison County Musings, Fall 2002 issue, written by Ethel CANNADAY Potts in 1967: "There were 10 children in the family, including William who was 13 years old and another brother, Hugh. Some men, either Union Scouts or bushwhackers, came through the community and took Hugh prisoner. The family watched as they took him off, riding on a white mule and as they went around a bend in the road, they heard a shot. When they went to see, they found him lying in the road dead. They buried him in the family cemetery. The cattle which the men had stolen at the same time were taken up close to Huntsville, killed and barbecued on the Bohlen place."
