Husband of Florene C (Matheny) Collins whom he married 23 Nov 1968. He the son of William "Bill" and Esther May (Newton) Collins.
Dale Orthel Collins, 86 of Batesville, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord with his family by his side, April 16, 2012.
He was born on December 30, 1925, in Oklahoma. As the son of an Assembly of God pastor, Dale and his family lived throughout Oklahoma and Colorado. Dale served as a corpsman in the United States Navy in his young adult years. He later worked at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, where he met his wife, Florene Matheny, and married in 1968. Dale moved with his wife and children to Batesville in 1970, opened a service station, and owned the Rainbow Café and Dairy Bar. In his fifties, he began working at Midwest Lime and retired when he was 72 years old. Dale and his family attended the First Assembly of God in Batesville for over 35 years until his health no longer permitted.
Dale enjoyed spending time with family and watching football and Nascar races. In his younger years he played guitar and bowled regularly. He was always active in his church.
He is survived by his wife, Florene Collins of Batesville; a sister, Donna Ruth Burress and husband, Robert Burress of Thornton, Colorado; a son, David Collins of Batesville; a daughter, Wanda Peterson of Batesville; a daughter, Tina Moore and husband, Chad Moore of Cabot; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Esther Collins, and a son-in-law, Chuck Peterson.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm,Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Willis Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the First Assembly of God in Batesville. Graveside service will follow at Union Cemetery on Hwy 25 in Dowdy.
