Boy Dies Following Accident

PRAIRIE GROVE — A 9-year-old boy died Tuesday as a result of an afternoon collision in front of the Walmart Express on Buchanan Street.

Prairie Grove Sgt. Chris Workman said William Rives was charged Wednesday in connection with misdemeanor negligent homicide. He was also cited Tuesday for reckless driving and no proof of insurance.

Police declined to identify anyone beyond the two drivers involved, but Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove listed an obituary for Tristan Molz, born Feb. 4, 2003, on its website Wednesday evening.

Detective Alex Pickering said Michael Molz was driving in a black Dodge Dakota with his wife and two sons around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when he stopped in the westbound lane to turn into Walmart. Rives, who was driving a Ford F-250, reached for a cellphone and didn't stop before colliding with the Dodge, he said.

Molz, his wife and two sons were taken to the hospital.

Pickering said Molz's 9-year-old son was pronounced dead at the hospital several hours after the wreck.

Workman said Molz, his wife and his other son were treated for minor injuries and released Wednesday.

Pickering said he wouldn't release any other names of the people involved in the collision pending the completion of an accident report.
