SPRINGDALE — Homer Eugene "Gene" Russell, 79, of Springdale, died Nov. 23, 2000 at Springdale. He was born Nov. 26, 1920, at Drumright, Okla. to Marlon Sylvester and Callie Curry Russell.

He was a cattle farmer, board member of Arkansas Cattlemen Association, member of Farm Bureau, Soil and Water Conservation, Washington County Fair Board, Board of Directors of Waite Oak Cemetery Association, Farm Family of the Year in 1974, first family nominated for district Farm Family of the Year, Arkansas Outstanding Cattleman of the Year in 1976, first Limousin cattle breeder in Arkansas, President of Limousin Cattle Association, won Grand Champion Limousin heifer of the state fair in 1978. He was a 4-H Club leader and an avid Razorback fan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springdale.

He was preceded in death by children, Marion Russell, Johnny Russell and Woody Russell.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Coker Russell of the home, to whom he was married Nov. 17, 1950; one son, Jimmy Russell of Springdale, one daughter, Norma Fitzwater of Malakof, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with the Rev. Bonner Teeter and the Rev. Charles Ashcraft officiating. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the Washington County Farm Bureau Board. Honorary pallbearers will he members of the Ozark Cattlemen's Association, Washington County Farm Bureau Board.
