Daughter of Silas Shirley and Dimaris Abigail Driggs Shirley
Alfaretta was born in Ohio. She was 9 years old when her family moved to Arkansas. She married Robert "Bob" Riley on Jan. 22, 1880 at age 21.
She was a small woman, weighing less than 100 pounds. She had black hair and always wore it parted in the middle, and pulled straight back. Everyone called her Rett. She is described as never having an enemy in the world. She was a sweet person.
She became ill with T.B. It was spreading heavily in the Arkansas area at the time. She died from it at 41 years of age. She is buried in Caulksville, Arkansas.
Her husband, Bob Riley, remarried and had 3 more children-Chester, Boley, and Melba.
