Peggy Elizabeth Merrell won her battle against cancer on August 23, 2014 surrounded by her family. Peggy was born January 2, 1953 in Brinkley, Arkansas to Finis and Opal (Cotton) Blue. Peggy was one of eight children. The family moved to the Oak Prairie community and then to Des Arc, where she met her husband, Bobby Merrell. They were married on September 24, 1971. They began their family the next year. Bobby and Peggy have three children, Lee Merrell, Karen Joshlin, and Michael Merrell. She loved her children and later her grandchildren. She was always there to support her kids and grandkids. Peggy was a very active member of Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years. She served as Sunday School secretary. Peggy also helped get the Awana program started. She worked as the Awana secretary for 14 years. She welcomed in each kid with a smile on her face and always encouraged them to learn their verses. Peggy was always willing to do whatever was needed, even if it was something as small as making her “famous” no-bake cookies or stopping what she was doing to say a prayer for somebody. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Finis and Opal Blue; two brothers, Sammy Smith and Wayne Smith. Peggy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bobby Merrell, her children, Lee Merrell of Searcy, Karen Joshlin of Des Arc, and Michael (Kelly) Merrell of Searcy, seven grandchildren, Devin Merrell, Trevor Henson, Gavin Merrell, Mathew Wallace, Andrew Wallace, Kourtney Joshlin, and Kaycie Merrell, three sisters, Sue (Dennis) Gurley, Brenda James, Linda Kloss, one brother, Larry (Kathy) Blue, and several nieces and nephews. Peggy also considered her church family a part of her family. Peggy was a very strong, dedicated Godly woman. She knew exactly who she was and where she was going. Peggy touched the lives of everyone she met, whether it be at the ballpark or supporting others while receiving her treatment. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at White County Oncology. They held a very special place in Peggy’s heart. Visitation is Monday 6:00-8:00 P M at Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services are 2:00 P M Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her memory to Lakeside Awana program or White County Oncology. Bro. Garry Wilson and Bro. Eddie Addison officiating. Pallbearers are Edward Holmes, Darren Evants, Dennis Johnson, Leonard Keeling, Allen Highfill, Scott Addison. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Wallace, Tim Sears, Bentley Rogers, Don Rogers, John Reidhar.
