Rogers Democrat

Word was received here last Thursday evening of the death of Porter M. Christy at San Angelo, Texas. The body was brought to Rogers for burial, arriving here Sunday morning and funeral services were held at the Christian church, being conducted by Rev. J.P. Dillon. Mr. Christy was a former well known Rogers boy, being son of the late B. Christy who died several months ago. He was very low at the time and his sister, Miss Ruth, who had been caring for her father, left at once for San Angelo where she remained with Porter until his death and then accompanied the body back to the old home. Death was the result of tubercular trouble with which the deceased had suffered for quite a number of years. He visited a short time here a year ago but found that he could not stand the climate and quickly returned to San Angelo where he had been for ten years or more. When he first went to Texas he was in charge of a commissary camp on the Mexican and Orient Ry. but when his health began to fail he went into the livery business. Porter was a member of the famous Class of '96, the largest class ever graduated from Rogers Academy, and was one of the most popular young men of Rogers. He clerked in the Sager drug store some time just before going to Texas and stood high in the esteem of the community. The deceased was a brother of Albert Christy and Mrs. Helterbran of Avoca and has three brothers in Western Colorado.
