COLLINS, A.D. - A.D. Collins, aged 75 years, of Rogers committed suicide early Saturday morning by shooting himself with a shotgun. The gun was found by his side. No note was left as to the cause for the rash deed but neighbors thought he had become despondent over financial matters, having been without work for several months. County Coroner A.D. Callison, who viewed the body, thought an inquest unnecessary as it was evidently a case of suicide. Collins killed himself shortly after taking his cow to a wooded pasture in the north part of Rogers.

The body of A.D. Collins, 75 years old, was found in the grove near the stock loading pens just off North Second street Saturday morning with a charge from a shotgun through the heart. A double-barreled shotgun with one barrel discharged, was found by his side. Coroner A.D. Callison said it was an evident case of suicide. No definite motive for the act has been established although it was said Mr. Collins had been despondent because of financial difficulties. It had been his custom for some time to stake his cow in the grove to graze and he left home between 5 and 6 o'clock Saturday morning with the cow as usual. The body was discovered about 7:30 o'clock and it appeared Mr. Collins had been dead about two hours. The position of the body indicated that Mr. Collins had sat down at the base of a tree after tethering his cow some distance away, placed the muzzle of the gun against his breast and depressed the trigger. The entire charge tore through the left breast, apparently causing instant death. Mr. Collins came to Rogers about three years ago from Joplin and had only recently moved to North Fourth street. He had been unemployed for some time. Mr. Collins is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. S.R. Campbell, North Arkansas street. Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist church Monday morning at 10 o'clock by the pastor, the Rev. C.C. Vanzant. Burial arrangements were in charge of A.D. Callison.
