COPPEDGE, J.A. - J.A. Coppedge died Sunday morning at seven o'clock at his home on West Walnut street. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the M.E. Church and was conducted by Reverend Harris. Mr. Coppedge had lived here for over seven years. He was the father of C.E. Coppedge, Mrs. Weaver, Mrs. Chapin and Miss Celia Coppedge, all of this city. Reverend Harris hands us the following: J.A. Coppedge was born June 13, 1819 in Culpepper Co., Va.; was converted when about 20 years of age and united with the M.E. Church. He was married to Miss Harriet Stratten Nov. 1st, 1842. To this union was born 8 children, one of whom, with the mother, preceded him to the Heavenly world. He leaves 7 children and a host of friends who mourn his loss. He was a kind father, a true citizen and above all a devoted Christian. He ever adorned his profession by his every day walks; he was loyal to his church in every respect; he has gone from the church Militant to join the great church Triumphant. There will be an empty seat here but one filled up yonder. While he had grown old and feeble here he's gone to that land of perpetual youth. Let us all exemplify Father Coppedge's life as he exemplified Christ's and join him some sweet day where parting will be no more.
