COWEE, James S. - James S. Cowee dropped dead Tuesday morning while plowing in the garden of W.N. Pierce in the south part of town. While Mr. Cowee had not been in good health for several years his sudden death was unexpected and a great shock to the people of our city. Mr. Cowee was a native of Ohio and was born May 22, 1851 and was in his 72nd year at the time of his death. He had lived in and near Lowell for many years, removing to Rogers several years ago and worked at the carpenter trade until failing health made him give up that work. He was a faithful member of the Central Methodist church and attended Sunday school and preaching service every Sunday morning. Last Sunday night he felt well enough to attend the evening service, too, and this week he told one of his friends to be sure to attend the Friday evening Communion service. So he was faithful to the end. Mr. Cowee is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lyda J. Walden Cowee and three children - Mrs. Gladys Hays of Kansas City, Leon Leonard Cowee, who is now working in Iowa, and Opal Matilda, a child of ten years. All of the children are here for the funeral which will be conducted Friday afternoon at the Central M.E. church by the pastor, Rev. Crichlow.
