MOUNTAIN VIEW — Vernon Marion Lawrence, 72, of Mountain View died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at a Little Rock hospital.
Vernon was born Aug. 24, 1941, in Big Flat to Thomas Jefferson Lawrence and Atha G. Qualls Lawrence. On June 9, 1962, Vernon married Charlotte Katherine Lancaster in Mountain View.
Vernon was owner, along with his wife, of C.K. Lancaster & son (Lancaster's Store) on the square in Mountain View. He enjoyed visiting with old friends, making new friends, and all the children and grandchildren of those friends he watched grow up. He was a member of the Stone County Quorum Court for several years. Vernon loved the outdoors, working on the farm, his cattle, deer hunting, and his grand dogs. Most of all, Vernon loved his family, always putting them first, and was the rock the family relied on. He was graciously saved by our Lord at an early age.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Lancaster Lawrence of Mtn. View; daughter, Stephanie Lawrence Labert and husband John; four sisters, Iva Jean Porter of Norfork; Bonnie Newgent and Harroll of Heber Springs; Ruby Gammill and Max of Onia; and Linda Lester of Gassville; one brother, Hugh Lawrence and Marilyn of Seligman, MO; three sister-in-law, Susie Henderson and JR of Mtn. View; Kay Stice of Batesville, and Billie Lawrence of Morning Star; one brother-in-law, Connie Rose of Big Flat; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernelle Lawrence Rose; brother T.J. Lawrence; in-laws, C.K. Lancaster Jr. and Jemmie Carter Lancaster; brothers-in-law, Joe Lester, Terry Stice, and Gene Porter; and sister-in-law Ruby Lawrence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Mountain View with Ray Brown and Junior Barham officiating. Burial will be at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View under the direction of Roller Crouch Funeral Home of Mountain View.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Roger Rose, Bill Porter, Shane Porter, Tom Lawrence, Mark Lawrence and Michael Gammill.
Honorary pallbearers are other nephews and nieces, and all his friends and frequent visitors to the "Liar's Bench."
