DECATUR - Van Oral "Blue" Philpott, 85, lifelong resident of Decatur, Ark., died Dec. 17, 2013, at his home. Van was born June 18, 1928, son of Frank Philpott and Violet Wilmoth Philpott Van Bebber.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Estes M. Philpott; and sister, Roberta Wofford.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Francis Colene Wofford Philpott; one son, Randall Philpott and his wife, Patti, of Lavaca, Ark.; two grandchildren, Laney Weber and her husband, Michael, of Houston, Texas, and Matt Philpott and his wife, Sarah, of Cave Springs, Ark.; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Kieran Weber of Houston, Texas.

Van was a member of the Falling Springs Church of Decatur. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict; he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Howard Perish VFW Post 9834 and the Arkansas Cattleman's Association. He returned to Decatur after his service time, and went to work as a truck driver and retired from Walmart in 1993. In addition to truck driving, he and Colene owned a chicken and cattle farm.

Funeral services will be Dec. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs, with Mr. Larry Ellis officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, 2 to 4 p.m. at Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. Burial will be at the Falling Springs Cemetery, Decatur.
