*Obituary

Gertrude Ann Bohlken, born Nov. 20, 1923, in Chemnitz, Germany, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.

An incredible woman, the best mom ever, a devoted wife and faithful friend to many, Gertrude "Mike" Bohlken will be missed by all who knew her. Gertrude and her parents came to this country of opportunity, from Germany through Ellis Island, a place she always treasured.

Mike valued her friends and the volunteer work she did at AETN. She received the Volunteer of the Year award presented by Gov. Mike Huckabee the other "Mike." Her work and friends at the local chapter of AARP were so dear to her where she served as the Sunshine Chairman.

Many relatives and friends will miss Mike's happy face and her strong determination at everything that she did. Among those are her daughters, Karel McCullar, Mary Ann Bohlken and Debbie Bohlken; her sons-in-law (who she always loved to kid), Leroy McCullar, Eric Whitecloud and Don Croft; and her brother, Ralph Merkel of Fort Wayne, Ind.; her sister-in-law, Eileen Bohlken of Long Beach, Calif.; a niece, Brenda Vallarie; and a nephew, Greg Merkel of Fort Wayne.

Services will be held at her loving church, Peace Lutheran Church at 800 Donaghey Ave. at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Entombment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, Mike wanted donations to be made at the Conway Cancer Foundation, 2605 College Ave., Conway, AR 72034. She loved Dr. Tsuda and her many wonderful staff members.
