Thelma L. Farnsworth-Doyle, 96, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 14, 2014 in Vancouver, Wash. Thelma was born Nov. 8, 1917 in Wilburn, Ark., to Clarence and Zella (Payton) Abram.
Thelma loved sharing stories of her life with family and friends. She recounted tales of walking miles to school, chopping cotton and various other farm chores. When the family moved into town, Heber Springs, Ark., to open a store and hotel, Thelma became a member of town society, ever the belle of the ball and finally Miss Cleburne County.
Thelma spent a few years at Harding College and then became a flight attendant for Continental Airlines. Her delightful sense of humor made her popular with both crews and passengers. It was on one of these trips that she met her husband, Roy Farnsworth.
During their marriage, she and Roy lived in Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Mexico and Idaho. They retired to Parker, Ariz., after moving to Parker, Roy was diagnosed with stomach cancer and passed away.
Thelma continued living in Parker, where she met and married Larry Doyle. Thelma had many wonderful friends in Parker and enjoyed socializing at the Senior Center, the VFW and the Eagles Club. She also spent thousands of hours volunteering in the thrift shop for the hospital auxiliary.
In 2008, Thelma moved to Vancouver, Wash., to be closer to her family.
On the night before her passing, Thelma told her caregiver, "Tell him I'll be ready to go in the morning and he can come get me. He knows where I need to go and he'll get me to the right place. You know who I'm talking about don't you? Roy. Tell Roy he can come get me in the morning."
The next morning Thelma was heard whispering "Bye, bye, bye," before slipping peacefully away with Roy.
Thelma is survived by her sons; Professor Rodney Farnsworth, retired, Mountain View, Hawaii, Rick (Donna) Farnsworth and Dick Farnsworth, Brush Prairie, Wash., and granddaughter, Olivia Farnsworth.
Arrangements are being made by Family Funeral Service in Heber Springs, Ark. Services will be held Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m.
