FAYETTEVILLE — Phillip Earl Stewart, 69, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Fayetteville. He was born Oct. 1, 1943, in Fayetteville, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Phillips Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerry Stewart and Bill Stewart.
He was an insurance adjuster for over 30 years. Phil was a man who never met a stranger. He was fun, caring, loving and just a great person to be around.
He spent many hours volunteering at FHS and various organizations in the city of Fayetteville. He loved the Lord and his friends dearly, but most of all he loved his family. He will be missed by many. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he volunteered for Community Meals and was a supporter of the M&N Augustine Foundation.
He served in the Army National Guard. He was a diligent supporter of sports in the Fayetteville Public Schools. He was president and board member of the Fayetteville Youth Center. He was Volunteer of the Year in 2004 far the Arkansas Activities Association.
The family would like to pay special thanks to Dr. David Ratcliff and Vicky Hopkins who worked tirelessly to assist Phil in many ways.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susie Brooks Stewart; two daughters, Shelly Durrett and her husband Matt, of Fayetteville, and Shannon Bullock and her husband, Scott, of Fayetteville; a son, Gregg Stewart of Fayetteville; a brother, Julian Stewart and his wife, Nana, of San Antonio, Texas; sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Denison, Texas; sister-in-law Tish Boschia of Fayetteville; brother-in-law, Sherman Brooks of Camden, Ark.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Durrett and Lauren Durrett; two nieces, Beth Plummer and Susan Vilven; and a nephew, Jay Stewart; several great-nieces and nephews; and loyal companion, his dog, Hank.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Moore's Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. Officiating will be the Rev. J. Anthony Holifield. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
