TOMBALL, Texas — Lewis R. Morton, 87, of Tomball died Feb, 17, 2009. He was the son of Charles H. and Edna V. Morton.

He was a decorated World War II pilot who served in the Army's 142nd Field Artillery Unit. During the war, he flew small aircraft for reconnaissance work and directed artillery fire.

He participated in the invasion of the Philippine Islands and completed 300 combat sorties in the Philippines and Okinawa.

He enjoyed reading about the old West and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorback football teams.

Survivors include four children, Marsha Miller of Cypress, Texas, Marilyn Morton of Rochester, Minn., Ed Morton of Tulsa, Okla., and Carla Prothro, Chelsea, Okla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, online at www.mooresfuneralchapel.com.
