FAYETTEVILLE — Banford Raye Mitchell Sr., age 70, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, in Fayetteville. He was born Aug. 13, 1941, in Bemis, Tenn., the son of James L. and Sybil Elizabeth Jackson Mitchell.

He was a graduate of Lipsomb University, retired from Traveler's Insurance and a member of Mount Comfort Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Rita W. Mitchell of the home; two sons, Dr. B. Raye Mitchell Jr. and wife, Elise, of Fayetteville, Ark., and Anthony Judd Mitchell and wife, Sara, of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, William R. Mitchell and wife, Kathy, of Trenton, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Anderson and husband, Mike, of Portland, Tenn., and Jane E. Cunningham of Lebanon, Tenn.; and five grandchildren, MacKenzie Mitchell, Jackson Mitchell, Grant Mitchell, Luke Mitchell and Mia Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Mount Comfort Church of Christ, with Mr. Nathan Jorgenson officiating. Private burial will be in the Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his name to Washington Regional Hospice, 34 Colt Square Suite 1, Fayetteville, AR 727103; or, Mount Comfort Church of Christ Building Fund, 3249 W. Mount Comfort Road, Fayetteville, AR 72704.
