Alice Morton Dawson, age 87, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011, in Bryant, Arkansas. Born in Heber Springs on October 22, 1923, she was the daughter and only child of the late Buel C. and Nell (Witt) Morton.
Born and raised in Heber Springs, Mrs. Dawson was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Heber Springs High School. She was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway where she earned her BSE.
Mrs. Dawson was a retired mathematics teacher. She was married to John Forrest Dawson, Commander, U.S. Navy, Retired, and traveled with her husband as he served his country. Upon his retirement from his military career in 1973, they returned to make their home in Heber Springs. Mrs. Dawson was involved in the Medley Club, an avid lifetime golfer, and enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Heber Springs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John, who passed away on December 24, 1981.
Mrs. Dawson is survived by two sons, John Forrest Dawson, Jr. of Berlin, Germany, and Philip Morton Dawson of Seattle, Washington; one daughter, Dawn Dawson Larson of Benton; four grandchildren, Heather Dawson Everett, David Forrest Dawson, Sara Larson Webb, and Jack Larson; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dawson is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in the Heber Springs Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.
