A funeral service for Mr. Jim E. Matherly, 93, of Mountain Home will be 10:00 am Friday, March 4, at Twin Lakes Baptist Church. Mr. Matherly passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. He was born to Joseph and Emily (Bates) Matherly on December 25, 1911 in Willow Springs, Oklahoma. He married Lottie Bell Jackson on May 29, 1937 in DeQueen, Arkansas.
He was a heavy duty equipment operator until his retirement, having worked in California for 50 years. He was a man who loved to laugh, and in his early days performed as a minstrel comedian by the name of “Spare Ribs” in a Medicine Show that traveled throughout Texas. He and Lottie moved to the area in 1982 from El Centro, CA; and he was the oldest charter Deacon of Twin Lakes Baptist Church.
A member of the Local 12 Operating Engineers, he enjoyed his career in construction and was proud to have helped build part of our Interstate Road System. He loved his family and, as one of ten siblings, had strong family ties.
He is survived by his wife Lottie, of the home; sons James (Geneva) Matherly of Davie, Florida, and Wayne (Margaret) Matherly of Henderson, Nevada; 4 grand-daughters: Peggy Palmer, Wendy Robinson, Gina Hawkins, and Jamie Matherly; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 7 sisters, and his grandsons Brad and Bryan.

A funeral for Lottie Belle Matherly, 94, of Lynchburg, Virginia, formerly of Mountain Home, Arkansas will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Roller Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Matherly passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Lottie was born May 3, 1920, in Goodwater, OK, to Elbert and Zonie (Plunk) Jackson. She loved her family, and, as one of 9 siblings, had strong family ties.
Lottie married James (Jim) E. Matherly May 29, 1937, in DeQueen, Arkansas. They were blessed with two sons. The family moved out west in 1942, living the next 40 years in California and Arizona. After Jim retired, he and Lottie moved to Mountain Home in 1982. They were charter members of Twin Lakes Baptist Church. From 2006, Lottie lived with her older son and his wife in Lynchburg. Growing up on a farm during the Depression, she learned how to work hard and how to manage. Throughout her life, Lottie never wanted to be a bother to anyone and always tried to take care of herself. Her high standards and values live on in her family. In addition to spending time with her family, Lottie loved working outside in her garden, yard and flower beds, canning, sewing, crocheting, quilting, crafts, and baking (her specialty was German Chocolate cake). She also enjoyed her years teaching the Beginners in Sunday School.
Lottie is survived by her sons, James (Geneva) of Lynchburg, Virginia and Wayne (Marie) of Henderson, Nevada; four granddaughters, Peggy Krider, Wendy Robinson, Gina Hawkins, and Jamie Kalafatich; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters Rachel Fraser of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Christine Fitzgerald of El Sobrante, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, two sisters, and her grandsons, Bradley and Bryan.
Memorials may be made to charity of your choice or Autism Society of America.
