Services for Arthur Howard Miller, 68, civic leader of Breckenridge for 45 years were held at the First Methodist Church officiated by Bishop Kenneth Pope of Little Rock, Arkansas assisted by Rev. Bill Fisher, pastor of First Methodist Church and Rev. Cyrus Barcus of Eastland, former pastor of the church.

Miller graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1916. He taught school and was a superintendent of schools for three years.

During World War I, he taught in a military school at Arkansas, moving to Breckenridge in 1920. He returned to Arkansas for a short time during which he was in the oil business.

In 1923, he married Miss Lucille Black at Heber Springs, Arkansas. The couple returned to Breckenridge when he engaged in general insurance and real estate development.

During his years in Breckenridge, Mr. Miller devoted his time and energies in civic enterprises in Chamber of Commerce activities, serving that organization as president in 1944 and from 1956-1960, the only man to hold the office of president for so many years in the history of the Chamber of Commerce.

He was past president and an active member of the Lions Club for many years; served as president of the Retail Merchants Association, the YMCA Board of directors and the Community Chest, and was director of First Federal Savings and Loan. He served as chair of the Board of Stewards of First Methodist Church for 18 years.

A member of the First Methodist church, he was a York Rite Mason, member of the Knights Templar.

Years of time, thought and money went into the planning and development of Arthur Miller Park and Swimming pool. Mr. MIller bought the marble fountain and had it installed. He donated land for the new United Presbyterian Church, thought he was a devoted Methodist. He was responsible for getting the Boss Manufacturing Company and the Davis Manufacturing Company. He did much work on getting the Stephens County Livestock Center built and in operation.
