Dovia REIDER

Union Grove Cemetery
Calhoun County,
Arkansas

Dovia McCann Holmes Reider, born May 23, 1922, in Southern Arkansas, was a sharecropper's daughter, and grew up during the Great Depression, forging her character and values. Dovia was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" at the Jacksonville Munitions Plant during World War II. She also worked at Westinghouse Electric in Little Rock, Arkansas until her retirement in 1985. A member of the "Greatest Generation", she was an independent woman who married later in life to a Little Rock police officer, Glenn Holmes. She devoted her life to raising her two children while working two jobs, under difficult circumstances, but did so, without complaint and with the unconditional love of a mother. She will always be remembered as a self-sufficient woman who single-handedly provided for her children, and inspired in them the values of education and hard work. She is survived by her two children, Dr. Donna Wood and her husband, Bill Wood of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rick Holmes and his wife, Sandra Holmes of El Dorado, Arkansas; her grandchild, Rhonda Robinson; and three great grandchildren Rio Mason, Nicholas Holmes, and Holland Ruff. Dovia was a member of First Baptist Church Broken Arrow, FBC Springdale, and Unity Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 5th at 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home, Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51 St., Tulsa, OK. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 2:00 pm at Union Grove Church in Harrell, Arkansas.
