FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Hazel L. Grigg died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Fort Collins. She was born July 22, 1918, in Russellville, Ohio, the second child of five born to Larnen and Esta May Taylo Snyder. Seven years after she was born, the family moved to Englewood, Colo., where she received her early education. Later, another move took them to Platteville, Colo., where Hazel attended high school.

When she was 15, Hazel met Irvin Grigg and they were married the next year in February 1935. Due to dust bowl conditions on the Great Plains, Irvin and she moved to Northwest Arkansas, finally settling on a farm near Rogers. They had three children, Helen, William and Virginia.

After Irvin's accidental death in 1949, Hazel and her children worked together to survive. She taught herself bookkeeping and was hired by Hunt's Department Store as bookkeeper and credit manager. She kept this position until her retirement in 1982. During these years, she formed many deep lasting friendships with people of her town and community. Hazel would often mention them by name as long as she lived.

In 2002, Hazel moved to Fort Collins to live with her daughter, Virginia until her death.

Survivors include her son, William I. Grigg of Rogers; daughter, Helen Swan of Folsom, Calif.; daughter, Virginia Soderberg of Fort Collins; her sister, Lucille Montgomery of Rogers; and her brother, Larnen Snyder Jr. of Clovis, Calif. She was also survived by four grandchildren, Tina Grigg and Gail Alverson of Rogers, Laura Swan and Irva Davis of Folsom; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Irvin, in 1949, her father in 1982, her mother in 1989, her brother, George Robert Snyder in 1934 and her sister, Estella M. Grigg in 2001.

Hazel was dearly loved by a host of friends and relatives and will be deeply missed by all of us.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, July 2 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Rogers. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rogers City Cemetery.
