GREER, James W. – We regret to learn of the death of James Greer of Vineyard township, which occurred Sunday last. In handling a half–bushel a splinter penetrated the palm of his hand, which produced lockjaw, resulting in death. He was a devoted christian, and a worthy gentleman in every respect. In him Washington county loses one of her best citizens.

To comply with a request from friends, I want to announce through your columns the sad death of one of Washington county's best citizens. Some two or three weeks before his death, James W. Greer, living near Evansville, stuck a small splinter in his hand, which caused something like lock–jaw, and on Sunday, the 4th inst., about noon, he died, surrounded by a weeping family and many friends, who could scarcely realize that the dear husband, father and brother was no more. The face of Bro. Greer was familiar to many about Fayetteville, and many were his friends in all parts of the country, who will feel a pang of sadness when they learn that they will never see the genial face of Bro. Greer again on earth. But, 0! how sad, how terrible it must be for the devoted wife, the loving children and the dear brother who are left to mourn his loss. J.C. Robertson. Dec. 12, 1887.
