*Obituary
Earl Cliftion Lang, age 83, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005, at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on June 2, 1922, he was the son of the late William Heber "Bill" and Lula Annie (Baxter) Lang.
Mr. Lang worked laying gas lines and doing construction work. He had also worked for the M & A Railroad and operated a pole yard for Nebraska Bridge Post and Pole Company in Clinton, Arkansas. A resident of Heber Springs for most his life, Mr. Lang retired from Heber Springs Wholesale Grocery, where he was employed for thirty-three years, retiring as warehouse foreman. He enjoyed working with his hands, gardening, telling stories, hunting, fishing, and animals. Mr. Lang was loved by his family and friends. His religious belief was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters.
Mr. Lang is survived by his wife, Polly Ann (Smith) Lang of Heber Springs; one son, Cliftion E. Lang of Heber Springs; two daughters, Earlene Hankins and her husband, Bill, of Quitman, and Carolyn LaFleur and her husband, Dallas, of Heber Springs; four sisters, Violet Grissom of Sweet Home, Oregon, Ina Ray of Urbana, Missouri, Costella Carr of Heber Springs, and Louise Newman of Winston, California; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Lang is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Roger Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Kent Latch, Don Elslander, Louis Lee, Jim Patchell, J. T. Carr, and Joel Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin P. Wood, Bob Latch, Felts Rector, and William Vaughn. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
