William Frederick Sprouse, 96, of Springdale, loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord Feb. 29, 2004. His family and friends will fondly remember him as "always the gentleman".

Fred Sprouse trusted the Lord as his Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church, Springdale, and was the last surviving charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Fort Smith. His firm faith was a thread woven through every area of his life on this earth, and give his family joy through their tears at his departure.

He was retired from his work of many years at Morris Furniture Manufacturing in Los Angeles, Calif., and until the past few years, lovingly crafted heirloom gifts in wood for his family in his shop at home in Springdale. His hobby was photography and that love for taking pictures has left his family with many more heirlooms from the past, including a beautiful record of the growing up of his children. He was the son Louis Taylor and Darthula Reed Sprouse.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laura Mae Sprouse; a son, Mark Steven Sprouse and his wife Debbie of Springdale; three daughters, Phyllis Jean Dematteis and her husband John of Santa Maria, Calif., Carole Elaine Smith and her husband Steve of Springdale and Fredda Louise Mifflin and her husband Jerry of Springdale; two brothers, David Eugene Sprouse of Springdale and Montie Joe Sprouse of Bixby, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:33 a.m. today, March 3, at Sang Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Dennis and the Rev Charlie Foster officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Springdale under the direction of Moore's Chapel.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1709 Johnson Road, Springdale, 72762.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Smith, David Smith, Jarrett Mifflin, Dallas Spouse, Brian Hedrick, Jim Fongnie and Nathan Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Dematteis, Todd Dematteis, Gene Miller, Doug Swanson and Kurt Krauts.

SPRINGDALE — Laura Mae Harbour Sprouse, loving mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2011.

Born May 8, 1918, to James Allen Harbour and Fannie Lauriva Vaughan Harbour in Bearden, Ark., she was a precious treasure on the earth for 93 years.

Her beloved husband of 68 years, William Frederick Sprouse, was called home to the Lord on Feb. 29, 2004.

She is survived by one son, Mark Sprouse and his wife, Debbie, of Springdale; three daughters, Phyllis Dematteis and her husband, Johnny, of Corona, Calif., Carole Smith and her husband, Steve, of Prairie Grove, Ark., and Fredda Mifflin and her husband, Jerry, of Springdale; and sister, EvaLee Jones of Murietta, Calif. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Laura Sprouse trusted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 22. She was an active member of Cross Church in Springdale until ill health prevented her attendance in recent years. She is fondly remembered for her devoted service in the nursery department, where she rocked and sang many, many babies to sleep while their parents attended the worship services. Her faith in Jesus was a testimony to her children and grandchildren throughout her life, and gives her family joy in their sorrow at her "going home."

She loved to crochet and quilt, making heirloom memories for generations of family members.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011. at Cross Church in Springdale, with Pastor Charlie Foster officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service at the church, beginning at 1 p.m.
