SILOAM SPRINGS — Elmer Alfred Rakestraw, 84, of Siloam Springs died Sept. 9, 2006, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born March 26, 1922, in Siloam Springs to Earl and Florence Hennigh Rakestraw. He married Helen Carney on May 14, 1941. He retired from Sun Oil Co. where he worked in the LPG division. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs. He was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Dawn Hill Country Club. He was preceded in death by one son, Col. Pat Rakestraw.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Rakestraw of Siloam Springs; one son, John Rakestraw of Siloam Springs; two daughters, Tiana Rakestraw Moore of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Richinda Rakestraw Earnest of Bixby, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Jack Steel officiating.
