BETTY LEE HOSKINS, a resident of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, born January 19, 1930 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, daughter of Roy R. and Ellen E. (Bennett) Edmonds. She departed this life December 2, 2011 in Eureka Springs, at the age of 81 years. Betty attended the Lone Star School from 1st through 7th grade and attended the "Old Red Brick" schoolhouse in Eureka Springs from 8th through 12th grade. She was a 1947 graduate of Eureka Springs High School. As a teenager, Betty Lee worked as a waitress at The G&J Café, The Coffee Shop in the Basin Park Hotel, Ekaland's Drive-In, and at The Eureka Springs Bakery. After high school, she went to work as a long-distance telephone operator for Bell Telephone and worked in their San Diego, Seattle, Fayetteville, Tulsa, and Wichita offices. On July 26, 1957, Betty Lee was united in marriage with her hometown sweetheart, James Lee (Jimmy) Hoskins, who preceded her in death on May 17, 2011. They made their first home in Wichita, Kansas where Jimmy worked for Boeing Aircraft. She gave birth to her daughter, Lee Ellen, in 1959. In 1965, Jimmy took a job with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, CA where they made their home until they retired to their hometown of Eureka Springs, AR in 1992.Betty Lee was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Calvary Baptist Church of Bellflower, California up until her retirement to Arkansas.Betty Lee is survived by one daughter, Lee Ellen and Ken Kinser of Eureka Springs, AR; three grandchildren, 2nd Lt. Hannah Cole of Twentynine Palms, CA, Rebekah and Cody Parton of Oak Grove, AR, and Zach Cole of Fayetteville, AR; one sister, Nancy (Story) and Robert Mehan of Eureka Springs; her first husband, Fred L. Bennett, Jr. of Dallas, TX; and several other family members and friends. Betty Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Roy R. Edmonds, Ellen E. (Bennett) Edmonds Story and step-father, Henry G. Story, and her husband, James Lee (Jimmy) Hoskins. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Nelson's Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs. Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Eureka Springs Cemetery with Pastor Vernon Payne officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Eureka Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to Eureka Health Care Guild, c/o Brighton Ridge, 235 Huntsville Road, Eureka Springs, AR 72632. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
