HATHAWAY, Carl - Carl Hathaway died very suddenly Friday noon at his home in this city, the result of heart failure. He was employed in the harness department of the Benton County Hardware Co. and the afternoon previous had been compelled to go home owing to a severe headache. It was not considered serious but it was thought best that he make no attempt to return to his work until the 1st of the week. Friday noon he suddenly expired while alone and was dead when found. Funeral services were held at the home, the old J.C. Sherry place, northeast of the Bennett Lumber yard, Saturday afternoon at two o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Howell, a Holiness preacher, with which denomination the deceased was affiliated, and for whom he acted as organist in the meetings at the tent. Mr. Hathaway was 52 years, 9 months and 10 days old and was born at Des Moines, Ia. He had lived in Benton county for over 28 years, locating first at Bentonville and then on Prairie Creek, where he ran a saw mill. Later he came to town and worked for a number of years for A.J. Duckworth in the grocery store, going with him when the wholesale commission business was started. For several years he had been with the hardware company. He was a quiet, unassuming man, attending strictly to his own duties and mingling but little in the outside matters of the community. He stood high in the esteem of his employers and associates and had many friends among the people of both town and country. He was married August 25th, 1887 to Miss Tina Howard, who survives him. He leaves 6 children, 3 sons and 3 daughters, all of whom are at home except one son, Lee.
